. Spring Baseball and Cheer

Our spring baseball program will begin indoors in March, since the weather is unpredictable. The first practice for baseball will take place on Tuesday  March 21 at 6pm. If your child in enrolled in T-ball or Modified(ages 3-7) practice will be at Bushkill Elementary School. If your child is enrolled in our junior or senior division (ages8-13) practice will be at the Lehman Intermediate School gymnasium.

All participants should dress comfortably, wear sneakers and bring their baseball gloves to each practice. A water bottle would also be a good idea. Once the weather allows we will move outdoors for practice. When this occurs the children will be separated by team. Indoors each division practices as a group.

T-ball teams will have less players than typically assigned to a baseball team in order to keep the children engaged. There is no need for a pitcher, catcher or even outfield positions. The game consists of two innings where everyone gets on base and no outs are counted.

Modified games will only consist of 2 innings and all children will get to bat each inning. In this division we introduce the outfield, pitcher and catcher positions. The pitcher will have 3 attempts at the mound before a coach steps in. Each child will be given up to 6 tries to hit the ball before a tee is utilized. Runners are allowed to advance more than one base.

Junior and Senior divisions will follow the basic rules of baseball and we will utilize umpires at each game. If in either of these divisions we do not have enough players to have at least 3 teams we will play intermurral style. This means that the children will practice as a group and be divided into different teams twice a week.  Children will be picked as Captains and be responsible for picking their own teams. Each child will also receive 2 shirts to differentiate the teams.

Cheer will begin on Tuesday March 21 at the Bushkill Elementary School at 6:30pm. Girls must wear sneakers. Included in the registration fee is a $10 refundable deposit for their skirt which must be returned at the end of the season.

Important

Please remember when you come to watch a game that the players are just children and the coaches are volunteers. We all try to do our best. Thank you!

Things for coaches, parents and spectators to keep in mind while children are playing sports on our fields.........

  • This is a game being played by children.
  • If they win or lose every game of the season, it will not impact what college they attend or their future income potential.
  • Of the hundreds of children who have every played youth sports in Lehman Twsp, very few have gone on to play professionally. It is highly unlikely that any college recruiters or professional scouts are watching these games;so,let's keep it all about having fun and pressure free.
